My students love to read, but our classroom library has gotten to be "same ole, same ole" and even though I've accumulated over time, the class library doesn't reflect the students in my class now. My students need to see themselves in the books they read. They need to be able to see people who look like them and who have been where they have been. My students will use these books on a daily basis. They spend at least thirty minutes a day reading independently and then sharing about their books with others. As the teacher, I can also pull from all of these new books to spark excitement and ignite interests.
