I teach a kindergarten bilingual class. This year I am lucky to have fifteen kindergarten students. Most of them already know their letters and sounds, and others are just starting to learn them. I would say that the biggest challenge my kids face is the lack of books in their homes. My district is small, and our school serves students from prekindergarten to second grade, about 65% of these kids qualify for free or reduced priced lunch. As you can imagine, with sixteen kindergarten classrooms, the availability for books is very limited.
