Art is healing. Children with emotional disturbances require more from the school than their average developing peers. They need support with handling difficult emotions, navigating mental health conditions and learning to cope. Art therapy provides a necessary outlet. How the supplies will be used: • Create masks that identify underlying emotions using acrylic paint, foam and paint brushes • Acrylic Paint and Pouring Effects medium- paint pouring • Brush Cleaner and Plastic Brush Holder will be used to preserve our valuable brush donations • Craft Sticks and Pipe cleaners- sculptures and worry dolls • Rubber brayer and ink- printmaking activities • Marker Pens will be used for card making, art journaling and inspirational rocks • Clay Tools and Modeling Clay will be used for family structures and sculptures used to express trauma • Tacky Glue and Mod Podge will be used for 2-D/3-D structures such as masks, nature mandalas and collages • Canvas- landscape paintings and other step-by-step paintings used to develop listening and executive functioning skills. • Cabinet - Storage and for students with anxiety who use sorting to cope • Markers- Worry boxes, social skill comic strips, art journaling and altered books • Fabric Paint- Fabric creations and encouraging t-shirts • Watercolor Paper and Paint- meditative painting, mail art and nature paintings • Sketchbooks- art journaling • Scratch Paper will be used as an incentive and coping skill as a self-injury replacement • Tissue Paper- Memory jars, origami • Glitter- Cards and gifts passed out as random acts of kindness, free art times where students are encouraged to create with no parameters.
