One of the most difficult, yet important, parts of learning a language is listening to and understanding authentic speakers. In a noisy room, it is hard to focus and interpret what is being said. Students also speak into their Chromebook to show they've mastered certain benchmarks. Without headphones and microphones, the room gets loud and overwhelming for everyone. It is hard to concentrate and the recordings are difficult for me to understand with the background noise of 40 students speaking French at once. A classroom set of headphones will help my students become more proficient in French. They will feel calmer and be able to focus, which reduces their stress. Learning a language benefits them in so many ways - and having a quiet environment will allow them to thrive.
