I am so excited to offer the LAMP Words for LIfe App to my students! I was recently awarded this communication app by PRC, the Prentke Romich Company, when I attended a workshop focused on how to effectively use apps to help students with little or no speech. LAMP can only be downloaded to an iPad. It has pictures with words that the child can touch and the app will speak the words for him. There are many apps available that can be used with LAMP to help students learn core vocabulary. For example, Toca Boca offers many apps such as Toca Monsters, Toca Doctor, Toca Hair Salon, and Toca Band, which offer students unique and fun ways to learn verbs, nouns, and other important words they can use every day. There are so many exciting new Speech and Language apps I am looking forward to using with the students on my caseload! I can use articulation apps that have pictures with their speech sounds, language apps that teach basic concepts and how to follow directions, and even social language apps that help children with autism improve their conversational skills.
