One of my new students asked me why we don't have healthy snack before we go home. He said they did at his last school. So, as a class, we sent home a letter for parents to send healthy snacks daily. Out of 22 students only 10 students were able to bring snacks to school. The majority that were able to bring a snack brought chips. When I reminded the students to bring healthy snacks, they replied chips were healthy. My students do not know what healthy snacks are. Our school provides healthy breakfast and lunch for our students at no cost if they arrive on time. Sometimes students are tardy and miss breakfast. My students need healthy snacks. The students that cannot bring snacks told me that they couldn't buy snacks because they did not have money to buy them.
