Many children were not immersed in a social setting prior to entering kindergarten because of the pandemic. It is imperative for social and academic language to be fostered in kindergarten. To teach my students how to interact with their peers and to stimulate social development, hands on learning and play opportunities must be incorporated in the classroom. The play toys will allow for positive social interactions with peers. The listening center will help expose my students to different read alouds, and instill excitement in learning to read. These items will support the kindergarten standards. SL.K.1- Participate in collaborative conversations with diverse partners about kindergarten topics and texts with peers and adults in small and larger groups. SL.K.1A- Follow agreed-upon rules for discussions (e.g., listening to others and taking turns speaking about the topics and texts under discussion). SL.K.1B- Continue a conversations through multiple exchanges.
