These students will get exposed to a world outside of their town through direct instruction on how to read nonfiction text and how to connect to the themes and ideas presented. They are so curious and TIME for Kids can explain what is going on in the world and perhaps reveal new interests and passions. These magazines are well known as age appropriate and exciting text to introduce students to current world problems, unique animals, and more. Receiving a magazine that they get to keep every few months that we read and discussed as a class will increase their comprehension of nonfiction text which is a crucial stepping stone into third grade. They will also be exposed to topics that interest most kids, such as weird animals or what life is like for kids their age in a different place in the nation or in the world.
