With the addition of these three mini iPads my 2nd grade students will be able to create and continually add to their online learning portfolio along with accessing online resources for STEM projects. With the help of the iPad minis, students will be saving digital images of their best work in all subjects. They will be able to record their own voices to explain why they chose the work and what they are proud of in this work. Students will also have access to the iPads during class time to conduct research, view online supplemental materials and most importantly, pursue challenging projects where they can research and find answers to advanced problems.
Currently, we have one iPad in the classroom to be shared among 24 second grade students. And each student, at best, gets to use the iPad only once a month. With the addition of three iPads, students will be able to use the tablets almost daily. Each of the table groups would be able to have an iPad they could access at all times. The availability of technology is the biggest hurdle we have currently in my classroom and the addition of new resources would result in an immediate improvement to the learning environment for all our future scientists and mathematicians.
