To teach young learners exposed to English for possibly the first time in their lives, my colleague and I often have to make our own materials to meet their educational needs. Children often respond better when we can give them color pictures to help them acquire language. It's just much easier on the eyes and captures their imaginations. Our last printer broke, and the district requires we have this particular printer, otherwise they will not provide technical assistance. We are hoping to be able to ask students to create books that come from their own experiences, to print them out and send them home to foster closer ties with families. We also use printouts to support vocabulary learning and to help students understand math concepts. This printer will make such a difference in their learning.
