I teach at a school where 98% of my students come from poverty and over 40% of the students come onto the school with English being their second language. We learn from day one that we have to look past the obstacles in our lives and look on to the future. I set very high exceptions for my students and they want to succeed at meeting those exceptions. School is a place where my students feel safe, loved and respected. My students face many challenges in their lives at such a young age, but they don't let it discourage them or stand in their way!
