I use comprehensible input to help my students acquire German, and we are busy. My students enjoy this approach to language learning and love to be up and moving each day. There is never a day that we stay in our seats for 90 minutes, and desks make this movement and active classroom difficult. Tables will allow us to move more freely, create different groupings, and even fold them up for a day or two so that we have space for larger projects or group work. Plus some of these boys are too big for our little desks. Their knees are tucked up under their chins!
