As sixth graders transition to the middle school learning environment, they traditionally struggle with organizational skills. By introducing interactive notebooks into my classes, I've gained a system for classroom management and organization. An interactive notebook is an old-school interactive tool: a composition notebook set up as a simple, functional system for students to create, write, and explore ideas all in the same place. Every lesson takes advantage of a different learning style. Students have much more ownership of the entire learning process. The glue and tape secure all the information in one place allowing students to confidently interact with information. The beanbag chairs will be the first step in creating a small group workspace where students can interact with new information in a relaxed setting.
