The books that I have chosen will provide rich and stimulating literature for my students that will encourage independent reading, as well as involvement in Literature Circles (small groups of students who meet to discuss a piece of literature which they have chosen). My existing library that I have built over the years, has provided a safe-haven for many of the students. My classroom library is a place where they can escape for just a while and experience journeys that take them all over the world through different time periods and genres. When a student shrieks, "I can't put this book down," one can only feel joy! With such a diverse group of children, emphasis in my library is placed on students' interests, academic, and emotional needs. After Hurricane Florence, reading is soaring in my room, and it will continue to accelerate with captivating literature that sparks students' interests and enhances lives. First and foremost, students need to feel motivated to read, and it should not be a chore, but rather a desire from within their minds and souls. A quote by J.K. Rowling's says it all, "I do believe something very magical can happen when you read a good book." With the addition of these new books, students will be able to choose novels that interest them, create experiences for them, and help to make connections into their real lives. I want my students to grow in reading, and one way to increase reading skills is to read more. My students already have shown an astounding desire to read. This project will enhance their reading and build enthusisam. Through offering a variety of books to a diversified group of students, it will only enrich their lives as they continue growing into strong independent readers, thus leaders into the future.
