My students are in an early childhood special education classroom, in a public school setting. The students have been diagnosed with a variety of learning issues such as autism, developmental or cognitive delays and speech/language delays. I often have students in my classroom for two to three years. My students are tactile and visual learners. It is important to set high expectations for my students in all areas of development. By providing students with engaging, colorful, hands-on activities, I can set high expectations, while the students are learning how they learn best, while playing. Finally, they will enjoy math and develop the first building blocks necessary to be successful upon entering kindergarten.
