My students are fifth-, seventh-, and eighth graders who had difficulty meeting the standards and passing the state assessment. They come with a range of individual needs, but all have deficiencies in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. They require reading materials based on their Lexile Level which meets their individual needs. The online program we are using this year boasts a growth of one grade level in comprehension if used to fidelity. That means students must complete the non-fiction reading and compete the comprehension assessment part of the program at least 40 times, scoring 75% or better. Students are motivated by the program's reward system as well as teacher recognition. In addition, if affords me the opportunity to teach to the individual needs of each student at all times.
