Every child wants the opportunity to be seen and excel in the classroom. While many challenges await students at school, one way to alleviate some pressures is to allow them an outlet for pent-up energy. Whether it was a hectic morning start, or simply just not getting enough sleep that night, flexible seating enables students a second chance to get their day back on track. The freedom to move and not sit still in a chair could mean the difference between success and failure for that day. For those who express the constant need to move, a glow moving stool or stability ball can allow students to release energy in a healthy manner. Being able to move when needed gives students one less hurdle to jump. By selecting a seat that will best fit their needs, students can have more control over their minds and bodies. With this challenge overcome, students can then focus on being engaged in their learning. At my campus, 5th grade is departmentalized. Currently, my fellow colleagues have flexible seating for students when classes switch. This project will allow me to provide my students with similar choices while working in my classroom. I look forward to seeing my students enjoy completing their work sitting on a donut or using a device on a portable desk. I truly believe having fun while you work promotes success!
