My 6th through 8th grade students from the South Bronx have never had the opportunity to take electives. However, last year, an overwhelming percent of students signed up to come to art club once a week after school. Their natural drive and impressive ability to create all types of beautiful art work with out any prior training was truly inspiring. Luckily, I now have the opportunity to begin teaching art as an elective twice a week in the upcoming 2011-2012 school year. I am excited to help my students grow as artists and simply enjoy the many benefits of expressing their creativity through art during the regular school day.
