My students are constantly moving based on ability and comfort level. Sometimes in challenge groups, in small groups, in pairs, and sometimes in groups with me. My first graders would flourish with wobble chairs, lap desks, and mats so that they can be the pioneer to their own learning. They self-regulate themselves everyday and have a say in their seating and movement. Flexible seating is important in our first grade classroom because it allows students the opportunity to be in charge and an active member of the classroom. After whole group instruction students will have the opportunity to decide where they are going to sit to complete individual work or group work. Overall flexible seating is going to help their achievement because they are eager to be in control of their learning and decide what works for them. When students understand what they need, they are able to perform more successfully.
