My class is comprised of functional students in grades 3-5. This class includes students with diverse mild to moderate disabilities including autism, cognitive impairments, developmental delays, speech and language disorders, ADHD, visual and hearing impairments, and various learning and physical disabilities. The students are very motivated to improve themselves and come into school each day ready and eager to learn. However, they learn at a much slower pace than the average child. My students also need the material to be presented to them in a different ways. Several of my students are reading below grade level by 2-3 years. They tend to struggle with phonics and comprehension. Math skills need to be reinforced daily as many of the students have difficulty retaining simple math facts. The students are made up of diverse socioeconomic statuses. Each day my students show up with a smile ready to do their best.
