I teach Math to 66 students in 4th grade. About 70% of them took their standardized test in Spanish last year. They are high need students and are mostly the first generation born here. They have limited exposure to literature and their families sometimes work two jobs to keep the basic necessities. My students experience tremendous growth from year to year. Every year I get a new group of students eager to learn. I try to make learning fun and interesting using games and centers that apply what they have learned. The economy has affected the parents of my students. I have been providing all needs. I bought notebooks and paper at the beginning of the year, but my funds now go to hand soap, Clorox wipes, and tissue. I have to make sure germs are not spread.
