As a teacher in a high poverty/ low income school district, many of my students face several challenges both in and out of my Language Arts classroom. Despite the many challenges my students face, I am looking for ways to keep things simple and to help inspire my students with meaningful learning experiences. My ninth grade is comprised of 186 ambitious students, many of whom are English Language Learners and 100% of my students are receiving free lunch. From the first day of school, they walk in the door of my classroom I remind them of their potential and growth while they are with me. I may not be able to control their home lives, however, I can certainly control their experience during the school day. By being creative and positive, I am hopeful to inspire my ninth grade classes to continue on a path of academic excellence.
