My students are amazing inspirations who have the potential to be successful with the proper supports and opportunities. As residents of a difficult urban area within Metro Atlanta, my students are often tasked with over exposure to negative influences and under exposure to educational resources. This year we have merged two elementary schools to form a new large elementary school, which currently services over 1,000 students. We are a Title I school in which 100% of the student -body is eligible for free or reduced rate lunch. My children are the epitome of the term “digital generation”. Want a guaranteed attention grabber, put it on a computer screen! A favorite past time is to immerse themselves in activities on their tablets, laptops, and game systems. Believe it or not, I often witness my students choose to go to the computer lab instead of having recess! Whether its interactive activities on the Promethean board, or individual exploration on the student computers, make no mistake about it, I get an overwhelming amount of participation, and motivation from my students when my lessons incorporate technology.
