Jewett Elementary is all about pushing the limits of education in new directions. The computer lab has evolved from just typing to 3D printing, circuits, green screen, stop motion animation, and even robotics. This last year the computer lab has evolved from just tech to STEM. With all of these great changes, a new one is on the horizon. Next year, our school has the opportunity to start a robotics club where students will compete against each other to perform different tasks with their robots. These robots will be built and coded by student teams with the guidance and training of the team coach and STEM teacher. The Lego Mindstorm robot kits allow for students customized robots based on the challenge. This promotes critical thinking and team work. Students can use tablets or computers to build the coded needed to program the robots for the challenge given. Lego Mindstorm also allows for expansions that create endless possibilities in critical thinking and imagination.
