This project will primarily affect students in 4th and 5th grade. These students went to school in trailers for 8 years following hurricane Katrina, and are entering just their 3rd year in a proper school building. We have seen the students spirits, creativity, and academic success sky rocket over the last two years in their new environment, and hope to continue building on that success! My kids are some of the most musically gifted students I've ever had the pleasure of working with. Music is so deeply rooted in New Orleans culture that it comes naturally to almost every child! This natural affinity for music creates an excellent avenue to build each child's thinking skills, curiosity, and sense of self worth.
