My students are amazing every year they walk through my door. They walk in with big dreams and are scared to believe they can obtain these dreams. I teach first graders in a Title I school in a low socioeconomic community in Mississippi. Most of my students have never been told they can achieve any dream or be who they want to be. Their home life situations are not conducive to the atmosphere created in my classroom where the only one holding them back is their lack of belief! These sweet children are craving knowledge, love, acceptance, safety, encouragement, and the opportunity to succeed. Although every effort is made by my principal to provide what is needed, as we all know there is hardly enough funding to go around for public schools, and teachers end up paying for most of the supplies out of their pockets. These precious children deserve more.
