My classroom library is in poor shape! Many of the books are falling part or missing pages from many years of 'love' from my students. My classroom library is also in poor shape because most of the books I do have do not reflect the diversity of the students in my classroom, their community or our world today. I am requesting funding to enrich my classroom library with books from diverse authors telling diverse stories that will expand my students experiences beyond their own communities. I want my students to be able to see themselves in the books in our classroom library, but I also want to expand their world to promote empathy in others that are different than themselves. The books will empower students with stories of people who look like them and teach them about people who don't look like them in order to instill empathy for all.
