My first graders are curious, creative, and kind children! Reading aloud to them is one of my favorite activities (and many of theirs, too) because their brains take a break from sounding-out words and they become problem solvers and dreamers, letting their imaginations run wild! I am an avid reader and in my classroom, we focus on the adventures, knowledge and excitement that come from reading at all ages. Many of my students are not read to at home by their parents, putting them at a disadvantage as they are not exposed to vocabulary found in books and they are unable to spend time talking about text. I want all of my students, regardless of their home life, to have as many reading experiences as possible. To make that happen, my students engage in several different reading activities daily.
