Having 5 tablets will give my K-2nd grade students a chance to use a new source of technology. Chromebooks are supplied to the 3/4th grade students in my district to use during school, but the younger students often don’t get the chance to experience and learn using technology. My classroom, currently, does not have any computers and the students would greatly benefit from the exposure and practice of various concepts using tablets.
We will use the five Insignia tablets for learning the alphabet, basic math concepts, fluency in reading, writing, and activities for student work based on IEP/intervention goals.
I typically have between 1-5 students in my small groups and have had up to 35 students on my caseload. Having a tablet for each student in my groups will allow me to create individualized programs and skills for students to learn and practice. This would give all of my students an opportunity to have a source of technology to use daily. We can use the tablet for more than just learning games. The students can take pictures, record their voices and playback student reading to improve fluency and pronunciation, as well as work on fine motor skills to improve penmanship. I think these tablets will become a vital learning tool in my classroom.
