I teach in a school that has a 94% free or reduced lunch rate. Seventy-four percent of the students are being raised by single parent homes or by grandparents. Our students do not have home computers, television, some even struggle to find food and shelter. We have a very high rate of English language leathers that come to school with very little to no English spoken in their home. School is very likely to be the most consistent part of my students' lives. I am the one they are guaranteed to get when they come in the door and when they leave to go out it. I am a constant. That is why I teach.
