My students need iPads that can be customized with apps and learning programs to meet their individual special needs. I teach in a self-contained Special Education classroom with young children in grades Kindergarten, First and Second. My students have many learning needs such as communication, behavioral, social/emotional, academic and daily living skills. One of my greatest challenges is not having devices that allow my students to communicate. Another is not having devices that allow my students to work to the best of their abilities. My students have difficulties learning the way their typical peers learn! They struggle with spoken and written language. They also struggle with fine motor skills and they have difficulty using a mouse while trying to use the district provided chromebooks. They are unable to access the many district required Language Arts and Math programs and assessment sites because of their poor fine motor skills. Spoken or written language can be very difficult for my students, although they are able to learn. I am requesting iPads for my students in order for them to have individualized technology available to help them learn in ways that are fun, interactive, and engaging- all the while, meeting their individual needs. My students will also be able to access the various learning programs within the district.
