4th graders can sometimes need a push to want to pick up a book. By offering books on topics that they are interested in, I am hoping they will realize that books can be just as enjoyable and entertaining as their games and devices. I want them to WANT to read! I also have a few students new to the country who speak no English, and I want them to feel welcome in my classroom. By providing books in their home language as well as books that are Bilingual, I can help them feel comfortable and also help them learn a new language. I have chosen many books that are already in my classroom library, and now these students can read the same book as a classmate. Building and growing a love of literacy is one of the most important roles I have as a teacher. We also are in need of new whiteboards. This is my 19th year teaching. My students are unable to use the whiteboards currently in my classroom because years and years of students using the wrong markers ( or even crayons) has ruined the surface. We use whiteboards on a daily basis to show me quickly the information they are learning.
