In order for students to learn and remember content, they need to be engaged in real-life activities where they can compare and contrast organisms and their different parts. My Marine Science students need to see and manipulate our many ocean creatures - especially because many of them have never physically been to the ocean! By dissecting both smaller and larger ocean creatures, students will see how they are similar and different, to include their mouths, jaws, and other feeding mechanisms. With this grant, we will be purchasing shark and starfish organisms for students to dissect. By comparing and contrasting anatomies, students automatically go to higher levels of thinking, fine-tuning their analytical skills to be a 21st century problem solver!
