Sewing is a fundamental skill that builds math and problem solving skills while creating a beautiful (and functional!) works of art. Last year, I introduced hand-sewing into my classes, and my students were thrilled. They created 3D plush models, puppets and pillows. They had to use and develop measuring and spacial reasoning skills as they created their projects. I had students begging to stay after class to finish their projects. They would tell me of bonding with parents and grandparents over their new-found skills and creating projects together. The only disappointment my students expressed was the inability to take this skill further and learn how to make larger projects on a sewing machine. With your donation, my students will be able to help build a loving, more connected community by sharing personalized quilts with others. Quilts are all about comfort and building community. Many of us had comfort blankets as children, often times hand-made by loved ones. With these supplies, my students will make quilts that will be used by them and their younger siblings or be donated to local children in need. Thank you in advance for helping my amazing students be able to develop important skills and reach out to others in their community! We appreciate all of out donors.
