My upper grade classroom is in need of more diverse books for my classroom library. I am looking to add novels that feature diverse characters, are written by authors who are people of color, and include stories that feature themes of social justice. Our titles include Anima's Voice, Refugee, Stef Soto, Taco Queen and more. By adding diverse books to my classroom library, the children who I teach will have access to stories that reflect themselves. In the name of equity, these students deserve diverse books. By reading diverse books, students will be able to: 1) feel connected 2) feel valued 3) see themselves in the literature they are reading 4) make connections to their lives 5) make connections to their history 6) open their eyes to the diverse world around them 7) see the possibilities for people of color
