Flexible seating allows my students to take ownership of their own learning through the power of choice. It allows students to work in a space where they know they will be successful and more focused. I have students who generally like to move around a lot and need the different sensory stimulation to feel calm, focused, and ready to learn. Many studies show that students are more engaged in their work and less disruptive to their peers when they are given a choice of where to work. Giving my students the ownership of recognizing what helps them get their work done is a great skill that will help them accomplish great things this school year and in their future. We already have chairs in our classroom, but the options I have chosen give them the ability to move around the room during different learning centers and activities while still being comfortable and focused. With your gift, my students will be able to be comfortable, safe, and focused in their classroom where they can grow and reach their highest potential.
