My students who are unable to sit for longer periods of time can stand, and move, at their desk. This will allow them to be successful, because it will help them to focus while standing and fidgeting and keep them from disrupting their classmates. It will maximize their engagement in the lessons that don't allow for movement around the room. The students can stand during the lesson when they are sleepy, restless, or anxious, and the balance boards will allow them to move back and forth to mimic the rocking they might otherwise be doing in a seat. The rocking helps them to focus on the lesson, and minimizes the distraction to other students.
