I am a special education teacher. I have eight male students between the ages of 13 and 21 who have moderate mental disabilities and come from families with a low socioeconomic background. These students also attend a high poverty school. My students either cannot read or have extremely low reading levels putting them years behind their same aged nondisabled peers in that respect.
