Tapping into a middle school students' interest is the best way to get them excited to read! By giving students different options in difficulty as well as character, theme, time period and plot we are allowing them to have some ownership in their reading. Each student will choose based on their reading level and interest and read the novel alike 4-5 other students. When having literature circle/book clubs, students are able to grasped a better concept of the book through detailed conversation and connection. When students feel they have a choice in their assignment, they respond better. We have broken the novels into varying levels of difficulty so not only do they feel excited to read their books, but confident of the material as well.
