I work as a speech-language pathologist a primary elementary school. My students are generally in Kindergarten-2nd grade at our Title 1 school. I provide speech and language therapy to students with a wide variety of diagnoses, such as autism spectrum disorders, intellectual disabilities, cerebral palsy, rare genetic disorders, etc. Some of the students at my school are non-verbal and need to learn alternative methods to communicate with others, such as using electronic communication devices. In addition to communication impairments, some of my students also have physical or behavioral disabilities. It is my job to help provide these students with ways to effectively communicate within the school environment and teach them life skills that will help them to succeed in the community when they have completed school.
