I created the stations with activities for each one. Now I want to step it up for realistic training and student engagement.
A healthy classroom is a productive one. Fluorescent lights have been shown to increase repetitive behaviors in children with autism. Light covers will reduce the incidence of them. Tactile sensory aids are effective paycheck reinforcers for my students. A bin-full is like money in the bank.
My students love to turn cranks and hear the hum of a machine. Adding both a crank-handled and an electric shredder will add a new dimension to the office station. Placemats, cups, flatware, and napkins will make the dining room station come alive. Filling salt and pepper shakers is a task anyone working at a restaurant needs to learn. Crushing recycled cans and using a folding board to fold clothes will both help and make these tasks more fun. Every one of these supplies will help step-up our work stations and provide opportunities for my students to achieve work independence.
