At 8:45 every morning my second graders enter into my classroom with a smile on their face. My classroom buzzes with hopes for the day through student laughs and story sharing as they put away their well-used backpacks. As they take their seats, I can see their eagerness for new ideas. In my classroom there are many different languages spoken at home from Spanish to Somali. But despite their differences in linguistics my students have found ways to build friendships and collaborate together on a daily basis. My school serves over 500 elementary school students and in my classroom we focus on using what we know to build a strong foundation for new and rigorous learning. My students are writers, readers and mathematicians. They are creators, engineers and public speakers. Together they work hard to grow in their understanding of the world and how they can use their learning to affect change and spread kindness.
