Budget cuts and the economic crisis are "killing" urban youth's opportunities for success in California. Historically marginalized for decades, these disenfranchised Watts youth find themselves in a deeper academic and technological divide. Yet despite the obstacles, this project offers hope for a very enthusiastic, creative, motivated, and resilient group of students. I'm a 4th grade teacher in a brand new Oakland school. Currently, my class includes 34 brilliant and eager students, however the project will serve at least 60 students ranging from grades 5-12. The urban school I teach at is in a highly marginalized and high-need community, which has been devastated by budget cuts. The school receives 100% free lunch and our basic operational and academic supplies are limited. Despite these challenges, our class does its best to move forward.
