I’m nearing the end of my second school year as a teacher and I can say I have learned a lot. I’m feeling confident in myself to do what needs to be done to meet the bar, but I now feel ready to go above and beyond. I went to UVA to learn how to teach students to love reading and writing. Unfortunately, working for a county school does not allow for the materials that I need to engage my students. I’ve been working on creating a classroom library to help students find books to love reading independently, but I want to teach my students how to love books with contemporary topics as a book club. I’ve done research into what books are engaging and thought-provoking, and I’ve chosen six books (three for each of the grades I teach). Neither I nor the school I work for alone can afford these books. That’s where you come in. If you feel so obliged, I’m asking for donations for the books on the registry on my bio. These books will be used for many years to come. I want to move past forcing students to read books they can’t reach and towards allowing them to discover a love of literature. I would so greatly appreciate your help!
