My students are 7th graders in a small town school. While they are all eager to learn, they unfortunately lack some of the materials to do so. This is the first year that they will have a middle school style schedule with science as a daily class that is as big of a part of their day as other classes such as math and language arts, versus in elementary school where science tends to get put on the back burner or used as a time filler. This is the first chance students have to learn about how awesome Earth is! By studying living things- including humans- students will be more and more able to think like scientists every day and see how relevant science is to their daily lives. While textbooks are informative, what students really need are ways to supplement that knowledge and help bring it to life for them.
