During this unprecedented time, my classroom will look different than it has in the past. Students will be expected to social distance and spend a longer amount of time sitting at their tables. This might be difficult for young learners. Play is an important part of children's learning and development. Play encourages autonomous thinking, problem-solving, helps them develop language skills, creativity, and social skills. Students will be given the opportunity to play alongside their peers while social distanced by providing each student with his/her own manipulatives. Manipulatives will be in numbered containers and assigned to a different student each day, then be cleaned every afternoon before the next child plays with them.
