We are a fishing community that is now having to move into a new economy as the fishing industry is suffering and changing. My classroom is full of wonderful students ready to try new and exciting things. One of these is new and current literature. Today's middle school students need to see our society, in all its diversity, in the books they read. Our school is growing in this diversity everyday and that is why it is important to stay as current as possible in our literature. This includes diversity in our race, ethnicity and learning styles. As my students are exposed to different literature their thirst increases for more and more good literature. This need is a wonderful opportunity to help create a life long love of reading.
