90% of our children are on free or reduced lunches. We are in a rural school, with only about 200 students altogether, K-12. Many of our students have never traveled more than 4-5 hours away from home. By redesigning my curriculum to focus on a different continent each year, I am hoping to expose our students to the world, through art. In the European Unit, we will study artists, such as Henri Matisse and Van Gogh, cultural objects such as Russian Nesting Dolls, museums, such as the Louvre and the Prado, and all are completely new to our students. The impact of studying art through the context of place, is going to be so huge!
