The students have significant delays and are all nonverbal. They enjoy daily routines, expressing their wants with pictures, and being with typically developing children on the playground. Days are sometimes frustrating for them, especially when the communication pictures books we've created are limited in what can be expressed. In class they are learning basic reading, math, self care, behavior, and social skills. Their biggest area of need is communication. This can be seen when they happily wave at other students coming into the cafeteria at lunchtime. Other than waving 'hello' communication isn't possible with the lunch picture boards we've developed for them.
