My school, located in Cypress, TX, is changing demographically each year and we are getting more and more students with great academic needs. I currently have 50 awesome 5th grade students between my 2 class sections, more than half of which are struggling academically. Their ability to comprehend written text is a challenge which leads to academic struggle in all areas. We have many audiobooks available for them to listen and respond to in order to improve reading comprehension, however we do not have working CD players for them to listen to these audiobooks on. It is important to build their confidence for reading comprehension as this is a critical year in which they must pass reading and math state tests in order to move on to the next level.
